Cheers to the New Year

(A message from Poss taken NYE)

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right”.  ~ Oprah Winfrey

As I posted last week, I am not one for big resolutions at New Years, but there is something refreshing, clearing about this time of year. It’s a chance to work out what worked and what didn’t from the previous year and maybe make some changes. Maybe not.

I am certainly not making any big commitments. It just seems doomed to failure. But I am making some decisions.

I am going to spend more time playing with Poss this year. Her therapists all say she needs it, she learns from play, needs role playing to understand what happens in real life, to formulate and practise socially acceptable responses. It’s something I really suck at. I am not a player. I can colour in really well, will watch DVD’s till the cows come home and even bake with her – but playing… yeah, not so much. But this year I will try.

I am going to blog. I love it. I love the camaraderie that blogging brings, the support and the way I get an insight into lives I would never otherwise. I love reading about other families and seeing what works for them, giving me ideas of what might work for us.

I am going to share. Share our experiences, parenting a little girl on the Spectrum. I am also going to share other’s stories. Parents, therapists and carers. Everyone on the spectrum is so very different and I am very aware that worries us, as Poss’ parents, is not necessarily what others are concerned with. I already have my first interview lined up and I can’t wait to share it with you later this month.

I am also going to continue to share parties with you. While I have stepped back from that world, my love of beautifully styled and executed events hasn’t gone away. I am keenly watching from the sidelines and will look forward to sharing my favourite events and party chicks with you.

And that’s about it for now. I am sure I will make more decisions, commitments or whatever, but at the moment my brain is elsewhere.

We are currently on holidays, spending our days alternating between fighting for sun lounges by the pool (seriously what is with the families who ‘bags’ them all BEFORE breakfast with their towels?!?!), doing touristy things and just stopping. The stopping is my favourite part.

I will still be blogging – but expect sunshiny, chlorine tinged, sandy,  gin soaked posts from now until next week when normal life resumes!
