Chunky and funky?

As I might have mentioned, I have a big weekend ahead this weekend. As well as all the other organisational bits and pieces, it has required a lot of high heel wearing, stockings and suck-in undies outfits.

If you haven’t noticed, I am a bigger girl, with *healthy* cleavage – and finding outfits that both make me look good, and feel good, and not make me look like a nanna, used to fill me with dread. There would have been tears. Lots of them in change rooms across Melbourne. In my experience, it’s hard to be both funky and chunky.

However, thanks to the wonders of cheap international shipping, this challenge is now easier to meet.

Last night, I wore a black ASOS dress, which I will be wearing again today. I have teamed it with a cute orange necklace from Sussan, a blue blazer (also from Sussan) and an orange clutch from Coco & Chloe. Add in a pair of opaques (I really like Levante for plus sizes) and a pair of black patent wedges (Witchery), and I am good to go.

Tomorrow, I have another ASOS dress, this time in a black and cream pattern, which I am thinking of teaming either with a black blazer, or a cream trench – both are from Dorothy Perkins. Add in black opaques again (it’s going to be freezing in Melbourne) and probably nude wedges, this time from Target.

ASOS and Dorothy Perkins feature heavily in my wardrobe. They fit well, wash well and are reasonably priced, especially for plus size clothing – even when you factor in postage.

Some Australian companies are starting to recognise the huge gap they are missing out on… I wear a lot of Trenery, Virtu and Sussan and was pretty excited to notice that Target is now doing up to a size 20 in a lot of their lines now.

I am constantly inspired by some of the wonderful fatshion bloggers out there in the blogger land too; Wait Until the Sunset, Too Many Sequins, Suger Coat It and Danimezza. Their confidence and style just oozes from the screen.

I pick up tips on brands and styling – they test it out for me, picking the best to share on their blogs, consolidating the trends and finding ways for a bigger girl to translate that across.

More importantly they make it look possible to be both funky and chunky – and more than a little bit gorgeous.
