Do you like the new job

People keep asking me if I like the new job. They ask if the people are nice and if I’m being well looked after. Answering it seems kind of awkward.

If I say no, what will they think of me? How would I answer without sounding rude?

Of course they are expecting a yes to both questions – and luckily when I respond it’s not even a lie. The people are genuinely lovely and I am really enjoying the job. Phew.

One girl told me today that you just know, it’s something in your tummy that says you’ve made the right call. I think she’s probably right. There’s been a lot of laughs this week and a genuine excitement about all the things we have to work on over the coming months.

I’ve slowly worked out the lifts, which are more confusing than they really should be. You swipe your card, the barriers slide open and it tells you which lift to get in, before you are whisked to your floor. No buttons to push, no cramming in like a pack of sardines. However, the catch, because there always is one, is that if you ever forget your pass, you’re screwed.

Essential things like a suitable coffee place has been narrowed down, from a spoiled list of choice. I think it will be a few more weeks before I can decide that for certain though 😉 I have a list of recommendations for sushi places, the best place for quesadillas and there are Tim Tams on Fridays.

I survived the fire drill yesterday; a real reminder of working in a corporate again. Down and down the stairs, in brand new pinchy shoes, before filing out to be counted by a clipboard carrying, hard hat wearing, minion. I’m sure they’re not real minions. In fact the one for our floor has some pretty cool tatts. But I digress.

There is something about a large organisation… the resources, the budgets, the expertise. For sure, things move slowly, the processes can be infuriating and it can be death by committee. Or PowerPoint pack. I’m not sure which. But so far, it feels like coming home.

  1. A good post to read, the lifts sound alarming and I am sure that you will be frustrated by the lurching leviathan that is a large workplace more than once but overall it sounds like a good move for you and I am sure you will thrive!
