Thankful Thursday… The sun will come out tomorrow

Tonight we are off to see Annie. It’s a musical that I hold close to my heart. I know all the songs, the scenes and way too much of the dialogue. And tonight I am taking Poss to see it.

I was in a version of  the musical when I was not much older than Poss. One of the orphans in the ensemble. Nothing special. But I still vividly remember the buzz backstage, singing the songs until my throat hurt, learning the dance steps, mouthing the dialogue and that wonderful feeling that comes when you are part of a theatre family.

We have watched the movie this week to try to get her in the mood; it scares her a little bit, but the musical has a slightly different story line, so shouldn’t be too bad. Others that have gone have told me we will love every second – and I hope they are right.

There have been times when I wasn’t sure if we would be able to do these sorts of things. She often finds the lights, the sounds and the movement all too overwhelming. We are yet to go to a movie that didn’t end in tears.

But I am hopeful that she will enjoy it. I hope I don’t embarrass her by singing along to all the songs and I am hopeful that it gives her a lovely memory to hold on to.

And more than anything, I am thankful for the chance to take her, to be her mum and have these wonderful experiences with her.

  3. I take my Miss8 to the “Sound of Music Singa-longa” in Melbourne every year. We were also lucky enough to go and see Mary Poppins when it was here. Those moments alone with her in the theatre make me so happy. We hold hands and sing as loudly as one another! Enjoy xx

  5. I’m ashamed to say I’ve never seen it, the musical or the movie. In fact, the only musical’s I’ve ever seen were the ones performed at my high school! Not for lack of interest on my part, but certainly on my mother’s! Your daughter is lucky to have a parent to expose her to such wonderful things x
