There’s no place like home

We had a lovely weekend away, despite my concerns last week.

There will always be family dramas, I don’t know why I ever think there may not be. It goes with the territory I guess. Especially when you are combining step families and in-laws; lots of moving parts, long held emotions and roles for each of us to play.

Poss with Orange Poppies

But the garden.

Their garden is one of those places that you can’t help but feel relaxed. At this time of year it’s filled with big dozy bumble bees, quick lizards and some of the most amazing flowers. Sculptures and pieces of art are scattered amongst the beds as though they have just wandered in and decided to stay.

The vegetable garden is equally fabulous. It’s filled to the brim, overflowing, and they are almost self sufficient with their veggies. Eating only what’s in season and swapping with friends for the things they may be short on. It’s their pride and joy, and it shows.

Poss spent most of our time there fumbling around the garden. Chasing her cousins, playing shuttlecock, hunting lizards and soaking up her grandparents attention. We caught up, we chatted, we drank too much wine and ate too much food. It’s been too long since we were last over, we made promises to do it again soon.

We arrived home late last night and spent the day cleaning, baking, washing. And back into the week, the routine. Poss was grateful for the day at home to acclimatise. It was nice to be away, but it’s true what they say, there really is no place like home.

How was your long weekend? Did you manage to get away for a few days, or enjoy some quiet time at home?

It was a lovely way to finish off the weekend actually – if only we could have a long weekend every weekend… xx

  3. The garden sounds fabulously perfect. And makes me want to get stuck into mine…for a minute at least :)

We had a quiet weekend. I was sick with a bad cold, but did allow for a good excuse to stay home and recouperate. Kids made the most of the warm weather in the pool for possibly the last time this summer. Was nice and relaxing :)

Oh I always come back inspired, for about 3 seconds, and then remember what a bad gardener I am… But it’s nice to stay at their place and enjoy it vicariously!

Glad to hear it was a relaxing weekend, even if sickness tinged. Hope you are feeling better :)
