Week three of school holidays is kicking off, I am wondering simultaneously where the time has gone, and how quickly until she goes back.
It’s been a bit crazy. With mum in hospital, MIL visiting from interstate and then with losing Max, emotions are running high. We found a balance for a few days, but it seems to have been thrown again.
However we are pushing on with Operation Playdate. We can’t get her into formal a social skills group like we had hoped for next term (we are on the wait list), so we have to try to substitute it wherever we can with the informal kind.
So far, it’s been mostly good.
We have been to the park with two friends, running and playing, eating icy poles in the 12 degree weather and saying goodbye with calls of honey pie.
We have been to see Disney on Ice, marvelling at the spectacular show and giggling over fairy floss. Or maybe that was just the sugar.
Poss spent a whole day with one of my friends, and her two small children, while I worked. They baked, they played and by all accounts had a great time. Her young playmate even asked if she could “stay for another couple of days”. Umm, that might be stretching the friendship!
We went to the library and made a book with some new friends, in which Poss declared her love for, and her intention to marry her play date.
The only disappointing smudge on the otherwise clean Operation Playdate record was when the new neighbours kids invited themselves in, were hogging all Poss’ toys (her words, not mine) and then were caught swearing, so were promptly sent home.
However Poss has declared her disdain for them, she is fussy like that, so I doubt they will return anytime soon.
With a final week to go, and a number of dates on the calendar, we can only hope the good run continues.
